Hardcastle is back in the hizzouse!

Postby Hardcastle on 31 May 2009, 04:59

I know I have been gone for like ever in Linux time, but things have been weirded around here for sure. Before y'all blokes call :crap: on me tho, witness this: Besides the strange weather around here that is standard spring wx for Kansas (100 MPH {or about 160 km/h}) knocking stuff around and over (kinda like Mehcro$haft) XD and taking up the slack for my elder dad around the place for him, I let my happy arse slip away from that good ol' Linux hackage for a spell... a hiatus, if you will. But check this out: that damn Jaunty Jackalope snuck around and bit me square on the bumcheeks and got me all wanting to get my hizzack on once again. Anyhoo, I decided to scope out the distros floating around recently, and found that Jaunty really brought the *buntus across the line into a state of usability that even n00bz could appreciate :D

I noticed that ol' Fab found out something a while back that I have found out just recently: #! (CrunchBang Linux) fully kicks that azz and should be on everyone's Linux box, if for no other reason but for its ease of use for an OpenBox implementation and its infinite hackability, even though it is so well set up that the default set-up is fine for the n00b :ugeek:  And, the bloody distro works well on my HP Pavilion 2005 vintage ZV6131US lappy with that damn Broadcom excuse for a wireless card. As I have found out, it plays well with the Intel Atom 330 dual-core processor as well. I scored one of those Intel BOXD945GCLF2 mobo's, and it does a decent job for a "green" machine (~35 watts in the box). As you know, the 330 has hyper-threading, so Linux sees the Atom as 4 CPUs. BTW, Faildora 10 lives up to its moniker with it (maybe F11 will be better). But the Atom 330 loooooves Debian-based distros, especially the Ubuntu derivatives, so it's all good.

I missed listening to you guys :dan: and :dreads: and I'm catching up now as I speak (embarassingly, im catching up from EP 57, but should be close to caught up as the weekend bears on... but now i figure I best listen to EP94 to find out what is current).

Fear not, those accents are already laser-etched into the brain now lol. Every now and again when I'm bored, I can still hear Fab say "Linux Outlaws... Episode Seven... Sie Gibbon haz landet" :o

Hehe... I think I do a swell job of keeping Kansans confused around here quite well lol. There are a group of peeps out here who can understand what I say consistently, but they usually are quite lit
It's been a busy week here tho. I have been helping some friends with a yard sale as well as helping them move to a new house, so it's been crazy busy... but heck, it keeps things from getting boring :)
